Our Client, an international Biopharmaceutical Company based in Canton de Vaud is recruiting a senior Laboratory Manager for DSP to build the laboratory and develop the lab activities.

Your Responsibilities

Operational
  • Responsible for the set up and running of a DSP development laboratory. Tasks will include URS, vendor selection, equipment purchase, installation/ qualification, set up of preventative maintenance schedules and contracts etc.
  • Assume a leading role in setting up DSP development and characterization studies, planning, and monitoring of progress
  • Use the most appropriate experimental design (including DoE) and problem solving methods to achieve results within the pre-defined analytical ranges
  • Review, edit, and approve internal protocols / reports, documents, regulatory submissions, and external presentations and manuscripts
  • Lead DSP tech transfer activities for handover and scale up of projects to external GMP manufacturing sites
  • Develop and maintain expertise in Downstream development including up-to-date knowledge of relevant scientific / technical advances and regulatory guidance
Management
  • Recruit, coach and develop staff (team up to 7 heads) by providing an environment that encourages personal and professional growth.
  • Manage and ensure the setting of realistic personal development goals for staff and provide regularly scheduled feedback throughout the year.
  • Ensure staff receives appropriate knowledge and skill development, and growth opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the DSP development team
  • Communicate issues in a timely fashion (technical, cost, resource)
  • Represent Downstream process development at cross functional meetings
  • Accountable for delivery of multiple projects on time, right first time and on budget
  • Manage budget and resource allocation, manage resource forecasting, and monitor and control expenditures against the department budget
  • Update and maintain the laboratory safety plan and ensure safety and environmental goals for the department are being met.
Strategic
  • Demonstrate flexibility to support other activities within the group
  • Provide DSP scientific, technical and operational guidance to the Development Teams and the Leadership Team
  • Participate in recruitment activities


Your Profile

Education and Experience
  • Advanced scientific degree: ideally PhD or equivalent degree in biotech process sciences
  • Fluency in English essential, knowledge of an additional language such as French or German would be an asset
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in Pharma/Biotech/Biosimilars Industry with demonstrated track record in DSP for biologicals – preferably with biosimilars experience
  • Strong technical and scientific expertise across the development spectrum with a focus on Downstream development
  • Experience with DSP process development, small scale model generation, process characterization and tech transfer to Manufacturing facilities
  • Experience working in a matrix organization and on multiple projects/products simultaneously
  • Proven track record of line management and coaching/mentoring of junior staff members
  • Ideally has experience with high throughput DSP laboratory equipment
