R&D Senior Electrical Engineer

The Role

  • The Senior Electrical Engineer will conduct applied research and engineering which requires knowledge of a number of disciplines to improve, or generate new products, components, equipment, systems and processes.
  • The work requires sufficient professional expertise to assure competence as an experienced engineer as well as interpersonal skills required to work with other company disciplines. Work is expected to encompass both the development of new products and maintenance of existing products.


Responsibilities

  • Plans, designs, and conducts complex research and development projects; and improves, or generates new, products, components, equipment, systems and processes. Activities may include devising research methods; setting-up laboratory tests and test equipment; building models and prototypes; calculating and analyzing test results and preparing detailed reports with recommendations and conclusions.
  • Identify all tasks required to complete project assignments according to New Product Development procedures. Prepares work plans outlining estimated manpower requirements and development costs. Recommends project budget and schedule to carry out programs on a timely basis.
  • Prepares complex calculations, specifications, and other technical documentation so that prototype designs can be manufactured and assembled. Interacts with outside vendors and consultants.
  • Maintain essential records and documentation (DHF, DCTM).
  • Handles all aspects of marketing interfaces, in order to precisely clarify the clinical specifications of the products and share the impacts on marketing.
  • Coaches and mentors less experienced engineers; checks the quality of their work and help them resolve problems.
  • Development of electromechanical power systems, tests, test methods and setups needed for design verification and validation testing. This includes the qualification of these setups
  • Full working electrical knowledge of and experience with product development and Design Controls.
  • Ability to develop project schedule and direct cross functional team's progress on assignments relative to project schedule.
  • Ability to document development work according to GLM, 21 CFR and MDD (Design Control, Risk Management).
  • Strong working knowledge of battery technology.
  • Working knowledge of global regulatory requirements including electrical safety and electroma-gnetic compatibility for medical devices.
  • Experience dealing with internationally recognized test labs.
  • Effective advocate on technical issues.
  • Capable of clear, well-argued, written communication in English. Must possess an advanced knowledge of and research technologies applicable to assigned areas of responsibility.


Profile

  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering (required; advanced degree desired.
  • 4-7 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
